JACK'AL, n. [Sp. chacal; Turk. chical.]

An animal of the genus Canis, resembling a dog and a fox; a native of Asia and Africa. It preys on poultry and other small animals. It is the Canis aureus of Linnaeus. – Encyc. Cyc.
