Definition for TAC-A-MA-HA'CA, or TAC'A-MA-HAC

TAC-A-MA-HA'CA, or TAC'A-MA-HAC, n.

  1. The popular name of Icica Tacamahaca, a tree of South America; also of Calophyllum Tacamahaca, a tree of Madagascar and the Isle of Bourbon; and according to the younger Michaux, (but probably by mistake,) of Populus balsamifera, a tree of North America.
  2. There are two sorts of resin which bear this name, one of them said to be the produce of Calophyllum Tacamahaca above mentioned; and the other of Elaphrium tomentosum, sometimes called Fagara octandra, a tree of the island of CuraƧoa, and other islands in its neighborhood.
