AS-A-FET'I-DA, n. [Asa, gum, and L. fœtidus, fetid.]

A fetid inspissated sap, from the East Indies. It is the concrete juice of a large umbelliferous plant, the Ferula assafetida, much used in medicine, as an antispasmodic. – Encyc.
