JOLE, n. [sometimes written jowl; Sax. ceole, the jaw or cheek; Ir. gial. Qu. Arm. chagell, contracted.]
- The cheek; used in the phrase, cheek by jole, that is, with the cheeks together, close, tête à tête. Dryden.
