BAT'EN-ITES, or BAT'EN-ISTS, n. [or BA-TE'NI-ANS.]

A sect of apostates from Mohammedism, who professed the abominable practices of the Ismaelians and Kirmatians. The word signifies esoteric, or persons of inward light. [See Assassins.]
