BYZ'ANT, or BYZ'AN-TINE, n. [from Byzantium.]
A gold coin of the value of fifteen pounds sterling, so called from being coined at Byzantium. Also, a piece of gold offered by the king on certain festivals. – Johnson. Camden. Ash.
