SNIPE, n. [D. snip; G. schnepfe; from neb, nib; so named from its bill.]
- A bird that frequents the banks of rivers and the borders of fens, distinguished by the length of its bill; the Scolopax gallinago.
- A fool; a blockhead. – Shak.
