DOUSE, v.t. [This word seems to accord with dowse, or rather with the Gr. δυω, δυσις.]

  1. To thrust or plunge into water.
  2. In seamen's language, to strike or lower in haste; to slacken suddenly. Douse the top-sail. – Mar. Dict.
