Adam, proper n. [Heb. ādām, man < adama, earth; poss. Heb. 'likeness,' 'from the red earth,''primitive,' or 'first of men.'] (webplay: earth, first, humans, like, unite).

First man; husband of the first woman, Eve; name given to the father of the human family in the Bible; man who left the Garden of Eden with his wife so that their posterity would experience life, death, and a resurrection through the atonement of Jesus Christ (see Romans 5:12-14; 1 Corinthians 15:21-22 and ED's letters).
