Definition for ELGIN-MARBLES
ELGIN-MARBLES, n. [Elgin marbles.]
A series of ancient sculptured marbles, named from the Earl of Elgin. They belonged to the temple of Minerva, and other edifices in Athens. They consisted of matchless statues, casts, metopes, &c.
