SNUFF, v.t. [D. snuffen; G. schnupfen, to take snuff; schnuppen, to snuff a candle.]
- To draw in with the breath; to inhale; as, to snuff the wind. – Dryden.
- To scent; to smell; to perceive by the nose. – Dryden.
- To crop the snuff, as of a candle; to take off the end of the snuff. – Swift.
