Definition for GRIEVE
GRIEVE, v.t. [D. grieven; Fr. grever, to oppress; Sp. agraviar, agravar; It. gravare; L. gravo, from gravis. See Grave.]
- To give pain of mind to; to afflict; to wound the feelings. Nothing grieves a parent like the conduct of a profligate child.
- To afflict; to inflict pain on. For he doth not afflict willingly, nor grieve the children of men. Lam. iii.
- To make sorrowful; to excite regret in.
- To offend; to displease; to provoke. Grieve not the holy Spirit of God. Eph. iv.
